DIY Wood Box

After building my Entertainment Unit, I started looking for things to decorate it with and came across Whitney at Shanty 2 Chic‘s Planter Box Centerpiece. It was the right level of rustic that I was looking for and simple enough for me to make.

Mine turned out a little different than her’s but I love it, especially with the fresh cut flowers…

So this is how I build mine.

I cut the pieces of wood to the size I wanted (I went about 4 inches smaller than the size of TV I eventually want to purchase)

2013-04-01-228 Sanded it, and used the nail gun and glue to put it together.

2013-04-01-229 From there I stained it with the same stain I used on the Entertainment Unit, and sanded it again to give it the aged look I was going for….

Sorry I don’t have any photos of the pre sanding stained box 🙁

Then I applied Poly let it dry and moved it into the house.

I’m using mason jars for vases (and plan on purchasing some shorter ones so they don’t show) as that’s what I had on hand. And the stone plaque in the center says “Sisters…kinship, companionship, friendship” my sister gave it to me for my birthday. I think it looks perfect in front of my flower box almost like she had planned it that way 🙂

I really am happy with it. Best part is it’s easily adaptable to what ever season I may be decorating for or what ever mood I may be in…it’s flexible that way.

So do you have any really great DIY Home Decor Accessories that you would like to share?

I’d love to see them.

I’ll be sharing at these awesome parties. Check out my party page to share the love.
